On Tradition

Quote

"Tradition is not the worship of ashes — it is the preservation of fire. The two are easily confused by those who have never felt the heat."

This distinction — between the living fire and its dead residue — was central to how Ahmad Javaid Sahab understood the relationship between heritage and the present. Tradition, properly understood, is not repetition but transmission.

The person who merely imitates the forms of the past worships ashes. The person who grasps what those forms were in service of, and lives from that same source — they carry the fire forward.
